Reiko Ioane's Return: Leinster's URC Lineup Shakeup vs Edinburgh (2026)

Leinster's United Rugby Championship Match: A New-Look Team and a Familiar Rival

The highly anticipated United Rugby Championship match between Leinster and Edinburgh is set to take place at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, with a much-changed Leinster team taking to the field. The team's coach, Leo Cullen, has made 12 strategic changes to the lineup that secured a victory over Connacht last weekend, propelling them up to third place in the URC table.

Among the players who have been retained are Joshua Kenny, RG Snyman, and Charlie Tector, with Tector taking on a new role as fly-half. Luke McGrath assumes the role of captain, moving from scrum-half. Ciaran Mangan and Andrew Sparrow are in for their first starts, while Ruben Moloney, John McKee, and Jerry Cahir join the team.

Additionally, Brian Deeny, Max Deegan, Scott Penny, and Diarmuid Mangan are included in the lineup, with Niall Smyth, Gus McCarthy, Will Connors, and Fintan Gunne moving to the bench. The starting lineup for Leinster is as follows:

A Osborne; J Kenny, R Ioane, C Mangan, R Moloney; C Tector, L McGrath (capt); J Cahir, J McKee, A Sparrow; RG Snyman, B Deeney; M Deegan, S Penny, D Mangan.

The replacements are G McCarthy, A Usanov, N Smyth, C O'Tighearnaigh, J Eriscon, W Connors, F Gunne, and H McLaughlin.

On the other hand, Connacht, led by head coach Stuart Lancaster, has made five changes for their upcoming match against Zebre in Parma on Saturday. Darragh Murray, Billy Bohan, and captain Cian Prendergast, who started in last week's loss to Leinster, are out due to various reasons, including the latter pair's absence at a Six Nations training camp in Portugal.

Niall Murray, Jordan Duggan, and Sean O'Brien take their places. Jack Aungier steps in for the injured Sam Illo at tight-head prop, while Chay Mullins starts in place of Finn Treacy on the left wing. Oisin McCormack is among the replacements, making his first appearance in the matchday squad this season.

Bundee Aki is notably absent from the squad, serving a four-game ban for his verbal abuse and disrespect towards match officials. The Connacht lineup for the match is as follows:

S Gilbert; S Jennings; H West, C Forde; C Mullins, J Ioane; C Blade; J Duggan, D Tierney-Martin, J Aungier; J Murphy, J Joyce; P Boyle, S O'Brien, S Jansen.

The replacements are M Victory, P Dooley, F Barrett, D O'Connor, N Murray, B Murphy, S Naughton, and O McCormack.
