Bold headline: A potential safety upgrade could be on the horizon for the Eagles.
Eagles news overview: The team opened a three-week practice window for safety Marcus Epps on Tuesday.
Reported by Dave Zangaro, with updates recent to this moment, the Eagles announced the 21-day window for Epps, who has been on Injured Reserve since November 1.
At 29 years old, Epps has missed the last four games due to IR eligibility, meaning he could return as early as Monday night in Los Angeles against the Chargers.
His return could bolster a unit currently missing rookie Drew Mukuba, who suffered a fractured ankle late in the Cowboys game and required surgery. Mukuba remains on IR, and it’s possible his rookie season is over.
Epps’ comeback could provide a lift. In the Bears game, the Eagles started veteran Sydney Brown alongside Reed Blankenship, but Brown had a rocky performance. It’s notable that Epps had previously appeared ahead of Brown on the depth chart earlier this season, even getting snaps in the middle of the campaign.
Stat line note: In 2025, Epps has recorded only 15 defensive snaps and 119 on special teams.
Background: Epps originally joined the Eagles from the Patriots, signing to their practice squad on August 28 after being released by New England. He was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster three times before earning a spot on the 53-man roster on September 24.
Historically, Epps played for the Eagles from 2019–2022, appearing in 54 games with 25 starts. He was a full-time starter for the 2022 Super Bowl team before signing a two-year deal with the Raiders that offseason. He started all 17 games for the Raiders in 2023, but suffered an ACL tear in the third game of 2024.
Latest developments: In addition to activating Epps’ practice window, the Eagles released veteran defensive back Parry Nickerson from the practice squad on Tuesday.
