With a recent funding boost of £19,650 from the National Lottery, this not-for-profit organization is expanding its reach and ensuring its future impact. But here's where it gets controversial... they're not just about food; they're about building a community, and that's a powerful statement.
Bath Community Kitchen has been a weekly haven for over 5,000 people in Twerton, offering a three-course vegetarian meal and a sense of belonging. And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the meal; it's about the connections formed and the confidence built. Founder Rob Lewis puts it best, "Cooking and eating together is a powerful tool for connection and empowerment."
The funding will allow them to expand into Radstock, reaching even more individuals in need. Additionally, they're offering cooking courses for at-risk youth and isolated older men, ensuring no one is left behind.
"It's about creating a sense of home and community through food," says volunteer Ellie Rymer. "People from all walks of life come together, share stories, and enjoy unique culinary experiences. It's a family-like atmosphere, and when we involve kids in cooking, it's a blast!"
The project has also prevented an impressive four tonnes of food waste, showcasing their commitment to sustainability.
But here's the twist: while the National Lottery has been a significant supporter, Bath Community Kitchen has also received grants and donations from Groundworks UK Comic Relief and local businesses, totaling over £10,000. This demonstrates the power of community support and collaboration.
